PPC for Auto Detailers

Auto detailing PPC management done right: campaigns split by service, negatives that block product shoppers, call tracking and a site that books detail jobs.

PPC for Auto Detailers

Detailing ads get expensive fast when the person clicking wanted a bottle of spray wax, not a ceramic coating appointment.

TL;DR Split your ads by service, because a full interior detail and a paint correction job are different buyers. Block product and DIY searches hard. Send every click to a page that shows your work and lets people book or call in one tap. Track calls and bookings, not clicks.

Detailing is two businesses wearing one logo

Most detailers sell two very different things. Quick, repeatable jobs like interior and exterior details. And high-ticket protection work like paint correction, ceramic coating and paint protection film.

The first buyer wants a clean car by Saturday. The second has been reading forums for a month and wants to know you will not swirl their paint.

Good auto detailing PPC management keeps those two people apart. Different campaigns, different ads, different pages.

How I structure the account

Campaign Who is searching Keyword themes What the ad should lead with
Details Busy owners, families, pre-sale cleanups interior car detailing, full detail near me, car detailing service Packages, booking ease, before and after photos
Mobile detailing People who want you at their driveway or office mobile car detailing, mobile detailer near me Service area and how a mobile visit works
Paint correction and coating Enthusiasts and new car owners ceramic coating near me, paint correction, ceramic coating installer Process, prep work, products you are trained on
Paint protection film New and high-end car owners ppf installation, clear bra near me Coverage options and examples

If you are mobile only, drop the shop language entirely. If you run a shop, put the address and hours in the ad.

Negative keywords for detailers

Detailing has more junk traffic than most trades because there is a huge retail market for products. Build a shared negative list and keep adding to it.

  • Product shoppers: kit, spray, wax for sale, buy, amazon, walmart, best products, the names of popular product brands
  • DIY: how to, at home, diy, tutorial, youtube
  • Job seekers: jobs, hiring, detailer salary, training, certification course
  • Wrong service: car wash, self serve, touchless, unless you actually run one
  • Wholesale: supplies, distributor, bulk

Then check the search terms report every week. You will find new junk every time, especially around coating brands.

Calls, texts and bookings all count

Detail customers book in different ways. Some call. Some want to text a photo of their seats first. Some just want to pick a time slot.

On calls. Add call assets to your ads and use a call tracking provider on your website so you can see which keywords bring real jobs. I go deeper on this in my piece on running call-only ads the right way.

On bookings. If you use online booking, set up conversion tracking on the confirmation step, not the booking page itself. Otherwise every person who looks at your calendar counts as a sale.

On texts. If you take quote requests by text, make it obvious on the page and track it as its own action.

The best website for auto detailers

The best website for auto detailers is not the fanciest one. It is the one that answers three things fast: what you do, what it looks like, and how to book.

  • Before and after photos from real jobs, shot in good light.
  • Clear packages with what is included in each one.
  • A note on how vehicle size or condition changes the quote, so nobody is surprised.
  • The coating and film brands you are trained or certified on, if that applies.
  • Booking or call button at the top on mobile.
  • A short page per high-ticket service, because ceramic coating buyers want detail.

Speed matters too. Google web.dev calls a Largest Contentful Paint of 2.5 seconds or less “good.” Big uncompressed gallery images are the usual reason detailing sites miss that.SourceLargest Contentful Paint (LCP)Google, web.dev, Current guidanceRead the source →

Selling more than appointments online

Some shops can sell more than bookings. Gift cards around the holidays. Maintenance plans for coated cars. A small line of the products you actually use.

That is where custom ecommerce for detailing shops makes sense. A Shopify store connected to your site can handle gift cards, packages and products in one place, without a separate system to manage.

Keep it small and useful. A store with three things people actually want beats one with fifty things nobody asked for.

Timing the year in New England

Detailing here has a rhythm. Winter brings salt and slush, so interior and undercarriage cleanups make sense. Spring is the big reset, when everyone wants the winter scrubbed off. Summer is enthusiast season for coatings and correction. Fall is a good time to sell protection before the salt comes back.

Shift your budget and ad copy with that rhythm instead of running the same ad all year. This is part of how I work with auto detailers: the ads should feel like they know what month it is.

What to do today
