For nail salons ยท E-commerce
Gift cards first. A store only if it fits.
For most nail salons, a full online store is more work than it pays back. Gift cards and prepaid packages are different. They sell around Mother's Day and the holidays, if someone can buy them at night.

What you are paying for
E-commerce.
A store built end to end, from the name on it to the checkout.
- The storefront, designed and built on Shopify
- Product pages that answer the question before it is asked
- Collection architecture, so browsing goes somewhere
- Visual merchandising, and the photography direction to feed it
- Mobile checkout flow, tested on an actual phone
- Launch assets: banners, email, social, the lot

What I would build
For a nail salon.
A storefront in your brand where gift cards sell by amount or by service, like a spa pedicure or a gel manicure. Delivered by email with a personal message, so last-minute buyers still look thoughtful. The design matches your printed cards.
A set of fills, a monthly manicure, a bridal party package. Each sold as a product with plain terms on booking and use, so the client pays once and the next visits are already decided.
Product pages that answer the sizing question before it is asked, with a sizing kit option, photos from several angles and care notes. Photography direction so the sets look as good on the page as they do on a hand.
Mobile checkout tested on an actual phone, because gift card buyers are in a hurry. Launch assets for every season: a site banner, an email to your client list, posts and a front desk sign with a QR code.
The nail salon version
Why it matters.
Mother's Day morning, a son realizes he forgot. He searches for a nail salon gift card, finds one he can buy on his phone in a few taps, and that salon gets the money. The one with a paper card at the front desk does not. Gift cards are the clearest case for a nail salon selling online, and they bring in people who might never have walked in otherwise.
Retail beyond that is narrow. Cuticle oil and hand cream sell at the station, where the tech can rub them into a client's hands. Online, they rarely justify a whole store. The exception is a tech who makes custom press-on sets, which ship well and reach people who cannot get to the salon. I have built Shopify stores from nothing, start to finish, and I would tell you the same thing either way.
The mistake I see
Building a beauty store nobody has time to run
The mistake is stocking an online shop full of polish and lotion that is cheaper at a big-box store, with nobody on staff free to pack and ship it. It sits half sold out and makes the salon look neglected. Start with gift cards, add packages, and stop there unless someone owns the store.

Questions
What nail salons ask.
Can clients buy a gift card for a specific service?
Yes. A card can be sold as a dollar amount or as a named service, like a spa pedicure, which feels more like a present. The catch is that service prices change, so the terms should say how a service card is honored after a price increase. Decide that before launch, not at checkout.
Should we sell press-on nails online?
Only if a tech already makes them and wants that work. Custom sets take time, need sizing, and every order is handmade. Done well, they reach clients who live too far away or cannot sit for a full appointment. Done half-heartedly, they turn into late orders and refunds.
Is a whole store worth it just for gift cards?
It does not have to be a whole store. A simple Shopify storefront with gift cards and a few packages is a small build, linked from your booking page and Google profile. If that is all you ever sell online, that is a perfectly good outcome.
