For roofers ยท E-commerce
Roofers do not need an online store. Mostly.
Nobody adds a roof to a cart, so most roofers should skip a store. The narrow case is fixed-price work: inspections, gutter cleaning, and deposits that hold a slot on the schedule.

The roofing company version
Why it matters.
A homeowner does not shop for a roof replacement the way they shop for boots. They want someone on a ladder, a measured quote and a conversation about the deck underneath. A Shopify storefront with a roof listed as a product would be a costume. If a sales rep told you every business needs an online store, that advice was written for someone with a shelf. You have a crew, a truck and a calendar.
Selling online fits the small, fixed-price stuff. A spring roof and gutter inspection at a set price. A post-storm check after a nor'easter. A prepaid yearly maintenance visit. A deposit that locks a replacement into the summer schedule once the quote is signed. Those can be bought on a phone without anybody calling the office, and that removes a step between yes and booked.
What I would build
For a roofing company.
Product pages for the few things you can honestly price without seeing the roof: an inspection, a gutter clean, a maintenance visit. Each page says what is included, what is not, and what happens if the inspection turns up something worth quoting.
A deposit the homeowner can pay from the quote email or a text link, on a phone, without calling anyone. I test the mobile checkout on an actual phone before launch, because that is where a homeowner pays from.
Collection architecture for a roofer is two or three groups at most: inspections, maintenance, deposits. Anything more and the store starts pretending you sell products. The path from your site to paid stays short and obvious.
Banners, an email to past customers and a few social graphics announcing spring inspections, timed for when homeowners start looking up at the roof after winter. The people who already trusted you once are the easiest first buyers.
The mistake I see
Building a store because someone said every business needs one
Roofers sometimes get sold a full storefront with a catalog of shingle brands and a cart nobody touches. It costs money to build, it looks empty, and it confuses a homeowner who just wanted a quote. If the only things you can sell without seeing the roof are an inspection and a deposit, build exactly that and point everything else to the estimate form.
What you get
E-commerce.
A store built end to end, from the name on it to the checkout.
- The storefront, designed and built on Shopify
- Product pages that answer the question before it is asked
- Collection architecture, so browsing goes somewhere
- Visual merchandising, and the photography direction to feed it
- Mobile checkout flow, tested on an actual phone
- Launch assets: banners, email, social, the lot

Questions
What roofers ask.
Should I take payment online for a full roof replacement?
Not the whole job. A replacement gets priced after someone has been on the roof, and the balance follows whatever your contract already says. A deposit link once the quote is signed is the part that belongs online. It saves a trip to pick up a check and it puts a real date on the calendar.
Do I need Shopify just to take deposits?
Honestly, maybe not. If deposits are the only thing you want to collect, a payment link from the invoicing tool you already use can be enough, and I will say so on the call. Shopify starts to earn its keep when you have several fixed-price services or a maintenance plan to sell alongside them.
Can I sell a yearly roof maintenance plan?
Yes, if you will actually deliver it every year. A prepaid plan with a spring check and a gutter clean brings back customers who would otherwise only call when something leaks. The store side is the easy part. Keeping the schedule is the hard part, and that is where reminder automation comes in.
