For accountants and CPAs ยท SEO & local listings
Local SEO for accountants and CPA firms.
People search for an accountant by their problem and their town. A complete profile and a page naming their situation beat a generic tax services listing.

The accounting firm version
Why it matters.
Someone types 'accountant for small business near me' in January. The map pack shows a few firms. One has a full profile: the right categories, services listed, current hours, recent reviews mentioning payroll and bookkeeping. The others have a name and a phone number. The complete one gets the call, and not because it is the better firm. It simply looks open for business.
Behind the profile, the website needs a real page per service and client type, schema that matches what is on the page, and listings that agree with each other. Then the review request. Accounting clients rarely think to leave reviews on their own, so asking at the right moment, after a filed return, matters more for you than for a restaurant.
What I would build
For an accounting firm.
Categories set correctly, services listed by client type, seasonal hours updated before January, and photos of real people. One dropdown moves more than most of the rest combined.
Small business tax, bookkeeping, payroll, rental property, estate and trust returns. A real page for each, written around the questions people actually type into search.
A review request once the return is filed and the client is satisfied, with a direct link. Clients who had a problem get routed to you first instead of to a public page.
Data aggregators, directories and professional listings corrected to one name, address and phone. Search Console connected and checked, so you see what people search to find you.
The mistake I see
Profile hours that never change with the season
Firms extend hours in late winter, but the Google profile still shows the summer schedule. A prospect searches on a Saturday, sees closed, and calls someone else. Others go the opposite way and show busy-season hours in July. Update the hours at both ends of the season, every year, and put it on the calendar.

Fix the profile first

Build the pages
Real local content, not the same page with the town swapped.
Keep it current
The maintenance is the work. It is not a one-off.

Questions
What accountants and CPAs ask.
Should we care about AI search tools?
Yes. The BrightLocal Local Consumer Review Survey 2026 found 45% of consumers use AI for local business recommendations, up from 6% in 2025. Those tools lean on the same signals as Google: a complete profile, consistent listings and specific pages. The work is the same. It just pays off in more places.
Can we rank in towns where we do not have an office?
Your website can rank for nearby towns with real, specific pages. The map pack is tied to your actual address, so never fake a location. If you serve clients remotely across a wide area, say so on the site and build pages around client types rather than towns.
How do we ask for reviews without it feeling awkward?
Make it part of the wrap-up. When the return is filed, an automated message thanks the client and includes a direct link. Clients who had a problem get routed to you instead. Never offer anything in exchange for a review, since that breaks the platforms' rules.
What comes after
Pairs well with.
A prospect wants to know whether you handle their situation, whether you are taking new clients, and how to start.
Usually nextAutomation that survives tax season. The work that breaks in tax season is the chasing: missing documents, unsigned forms, unanswered calls.
