For electricians ยท SEO & local listings

Local SEO for electricians.

People search for the job, not the trade: EV charger installer, generator installation, panel upgrade. Your profile and pages decide which of those searches you show up in.

The electrical contractor version

Why it matters.

Look at what electrical searches actually are. Homeowners type the outcome they want: a charger in the garage, a generator for the next outage, a fix for a breaker that keeps tripping. A Google Business Profile with only the electrician category and no services listed, and a site with one generic page, give search engines nothing to match against those.

Reviews and AI answers are part of this now. BrightLocal's Local Consumer Review Survey 2026 found 45% of consumers used AI for local business recommendations in 2026, up from 6% in 2025. Those tools draw on consistent listings, clear service pages and reviews that describe the actual work.

What I would build

For an electrical contractor.

01A profile built around your services

Google Business Profile claimed, categorized and filled properly, with a services list that names EV chargers, generators, panel upgrades and the other work you want, plus real photos of finished jobs.

02Service and town pages that say something

A real page per service and per town you serve, describing the actual work: older housing that needs panel upgrades, garages getting chargers, exposed homes wanting generators. Never the same page with a town name swapped.

03Clean listings and matching schema

Listings corrected and made consistent across the web, and schema markup that matches what is on each page. Electricians who moved shops or changed numbers often have old details scattered everywhere.

04Reviews that mention the job

A review request after every job, worded so customers naturally mention what you did: the charger, the generator, the panel. Search Console connected and checked, so I see which searches actually bring people in.

The mistake I see

Leaving the services list empty

Plenty of electrician profiles have a category, a phone number and nothing else. The services section, where you can list EV charger installation, generator installation and panel upgrades, sits blank. It takes an afternoon to fill in and it shapes which searches you can appear in. Do it before anything fancier.

What you get

SEO & local listings.

Local search is mostly unglamorous maintenance done consistently: correct listings, real reviews, pages that answer the actual question.

  • Google Business Profile claimed, categorized and filled properly
  • Listings corrected and made consistent across the web
  • A real page per service and per town you serve
  • Schema markup that matches what is on the page
  • A review request that fires after every job
  • Search Console connected, and checked
Price. Single fixes, like a Google profile built out properly, start at $499. Ongoing work is quoted after a call.

How it goes

For an electrical contractor, step by step.

→ Keep scrolling. It moves sideways.

  1. Audit

What is wrong, what is missing, what is costing you.

  2. Fix the profile first

One dropdown moves more than most of the rest combined.

  3. Build the pages

Real local content, not the same page with the town swapped.

  4. Keep it current

The maintenance is the work. It is not a one-off.

  5. Step five is you.

The free Receipt shows what your electrical contractor should fix first. About half a minute, no card.

Questions

What electricians ask.

Should we add an EV charger category to our profile?

If Google offers a matching category and EV work is a real focus, adding it as a secondary category can help. Keep electrician as primary unless chargers are genuinely most of your work. Categories should describe the business honestly, not every job you have ever done.

Do we need a page for every town we cover?

Only for towns where you genuinely work, with content specific to the place, like older neighborhoods where outdated wiring still turns up or newer developments full of garages wanting chargers. Thin copies with the name swapped hurt more than they help.

How do we compete with big lead-generation sites?

By being the real local business they are not. An accurate profile, real photos, reviews that mention specific jobs and pages written about your actual work. Lead sites often rank broadly but look generic when a homeowner looks closely. That closer look is where you win.
