For plumbers · SEO & local listings
Local SEO for plumbers.
Emergency plumbing searches happen on the map. If your Google profile is thin, your reviews are old and your listings disagree, you are not in the handful of results that get the call.

The plumbing company version
Why it matters.
Emergency searches look like plumber near me or burst pipe repair, and the first answer people see is the map pack. Your position there depends heavily on your Google Business Profile: categories, services, hours, photos and reviews. Plenty of plumbing profiles still have a single category, no services listed and the wrong hours, which quietly hands those calls to someone else.
Planned searches behave differently. Someone looking for tankless water heater installation or bathroom rough-in plumbing reads pages and compares. That is where a real page for each service and each town you serve matters, written about the actual work, not copied with the town name swapped.
What I would build
For a plumbing company.
Google Business Profile claimed, categorized and filled properly: the right primary category, relevant secondary categories, a full services list, accurate emergency hours and real photos of your crew and vans.
A real page for each service, from drains and water heaters to repipes and remodel rough-ins, and for each town you serve. Each page answers what that search actually implies, with your own work as proof.
Listings corrected and consistent across the web. Plumbers often have old addresses or numbers floating around from a previous shop or a tracking number, and the mismatches confuse both customers and search engines.
A review request after every job, schema markup that matches what is on the page, and Search Console connected and checked. That is the maintenance that keeps the rest of the work from slipping.
The mistake I see
Claiming 24/7 when nobody picks up
Plenty of plumbing profiles say open around the clock because it sounds competitive. If the phone goes to voicemail at night, the result is angry reviews and wasted calls. List your real hours, and if you offer emergency service, make sure it is real. Honest hours protect your reviews, and reviews protect your ranking.

Fix the profile first
One dropdown moves more than most of the rest combined.
Build the pages
Real local content, not the same page with the town swapped.
Keep it current
The maintenance is the work. It is not a one-off.

Questions
What plumbers ask.
We do not have a storefront. Can we still rank on the map?
Yes. Most plumbers are service-area businesses, which means you hide your address and list the area you cover. You can still rank, though distance to the searcher matters, so the service area should be realistic. Listing towns you never actually drive to does not help.
Should we use a tracking number on our Google profile?
You can, carefully. Put the tracking number as the primary number and your main line as the additional number, so listings stay consistent. Done carelessly, tracking numbers create conflicting listings across the web. I set it up so you get the data without breaking consistency.
How do we get reviews from emergency customers?
Ask fast, while the relief is fresh. A text with a review link right after the job, routed so unhappy customers reach a person first, works better than waiting a week. Emergency customers are often the most grateful ones you have, because you showed up when nobody else did.
