For HVAC companies ยท SEO & local listings

Local SEO for HVAC companies.

Furnace repair, boiler service and heat pump installation are separate searches. If your listing and your site only say HVAC, you are invisible for most of them.

The HVAC company version

Why it matters.

Search behavior in heating and cooling splits by system. A homeowner with a steam boiler searches for boiler repair. One planning a conversion searches for heat pump installers. A landlord with a dead condenser searches for AC repair. Your Google Business Profile categories, services list and website pages decide which of those searches you appear in, and most shops leave the defaults.

Reviews matter too, and freshness counts. BrightLocal's Local Consumer Review Survey 2026 found about 74% of consumers only value reviews from the last three months. An HVAC shop with a burst of reviews from one busy winter and nothing since looks stale by summer. A review request after every job fixes that.

What I would build

For an HVAC company.

01Profile categories that match your work

Google Business Profile claimed, categorized and filled properly. Primary category chosen for the work you most want, heating and air conditioning categories added where they fit, and a services list naming each system you actually work on.

02A real page per system and per town

Separate pages for furnaces, boilers, heat pumps, ductless and central air, plus town pages only where you genuinely work. Each one shows your own installs and answers the questions people in that situation ask.

03Listings and schema that agree

Listings corrected and made consistent across the web, so your name, number and address match everywhere. Schema markup that matches what is on the page, so search engines understand which services you offer and where.

04Reviews that keep coming

A review request that fires after every job, plus Search Console connected and actually checked. That shows which searches bring people in, and which heat pump or boiler pages still need work.

The mistake I see

Picking a primary category on a hunch

Shops that do both plumbing and heating often pick plumber as the primary category because it came first, then wonder why heat pump searches never find them. The primary category carries the most weight. Choose it for the work you want more of, and let secondary categories cover the rest.

What you get

SEO & local listings.

Local search is mostly unglamorous maintenance done consistently: correct listings, real reviews, pages that answer the actual question.

  • Google Business Profile claimed, categorized and filled properly
  • Listings corrected and made consistent across the web
  • A real page per service and per town you serve
  • Schema markup that matches what is on the page
  • A review request that fires after every job
  • Search Console connected, and checked
Price. Single fixes, like a Google profile built out properly, start at $499. Ongoing work is quoted after a call.

How it goes

For an HVAC company, step by step.

→ Keep scrolling. It moves sideways.

  1. Audit

What is wrong, what is missing, what is costing you.

  2. Fix the profile first

One dropdown moves more than most of the rest combined.

  3. Build the pages

Real local content, not the same page with the town swapped.

  4. Keep it current

The maintenance is the work. It is not a one-off.

  5. Step five is you.

The free Receipt shows what your HVAC company should fix first. About half a minute, no card.

Questions

What HVAC companies ask.

Should we list ourselves as a service-area business?

If customers never visit your shop, generally yes, and you hide the address while listing the area you cover. If you have a showroom or counter people walk into, show the address. Either way, the service area should reflect where you really go, not every town you would theoretically drive to.

Do manufacturer dealer badges help our rankings?

Not directly in search. They can help once a homeowner lands on your site, because they signal training and warranty backing. Show the ones you genuinely hold, link to the manufacturer's dealer locator if you are listed there, and never use logos you have not earned.

How long before local SEO shows results for HVAC?

Profile fixes can show up fairly quickly. New pages and steady reviews take longer, often a few months to settle. That is why I audit first and fix the profile before anything else. Start before heating season, not during it, so the work is in place when people search.

What comes after
