For dentists ยท E-commerce
Online sales for dentists, without the gimmicks.
A dental office does not need a shopping cart for cleanings. It might need a clean way to join an in-house membership plan, or buy a whitening gift card, from a phone.

The dental practice version
Why it matters.
Think about the patient without dental insurance who lands on your site. They want to know whether your office has a membership plan, what it covers and how to join. If the answer is a PDF and a phone number, the decision waits for business hours, and it often waits forever. A plan page that explains the coverage plainly and lets them enroll online skips the awkward money conversation and gets them on the schedule.
Be honest about the tools, though. Membership plans run on recurring billing, renewals and eligibility checks, and software built for dental memberships often handles that better than a general store. I have built Shopify stores from nothing, start to finish, and I would still point you to the dedicated tool when it fits better, then design the page in front of it. Shopify earns its place for gift cards and retail.
What I would build
For a dental practice.
A page that lays out what the plan covers, what it does not, how renewal works and how to join, in plain language. Enrollment happens on a phone without a call, whether the checkout is Shopify or the membership software you already use.
Gift card product pages with plain terms on what they cover and how to redeem them, timed for the holidays and wedding season. The page makes clear that treatment still depends on what the dentist recommends.
Collection architecture for the few products your office stands behind: electric toothbrushes, floss tools, the toothpaste your hygienists hand out. Photographed in your office, described plainly, and kept clear of whitening or health promises.
A site banner, an email to patients who opted in to hear from you, and social graphics announcing the membership plan or a holiday gift card push. Built from your brand files, with no patient photos unless you have written authorization.
The mistake I see
Discounting dentistry like a retail product
Some practices treat online sales like a coupon site: flash deals on whitening, countdown timers, a cart full of discounted cleanings. It attracts bargain hunters who leave for the next deal, and it makes the practice look like it competes on price. A membership plan with clear value and a gift card with plain terms do the job without cheapening the care behind them.
What you get
E-commerce.
A store built end to end, from the name on it to the checkout.
- The storefront, designed and built on Shopify
- Product pages that answer the question before it is asked
- Collection architecture, so browsing goes somewhere
- Visual merchandising, and the photography direction to feed it
- Mobile checkout flow, tested on an actual phone
- Launch assets: banners, email, social, the lot
How it goes

Know the shelf
What you sell, who buys it, and what they compare it against.
Structure first
Collections, categories, the path through.
Look, then build
The look applied to templates rather than to one page, then products loaded and the buying flow tested end to end.
Launch and watch
Watch what people actually do, and fix that.
Step five is you.

Questions
What dentists ask.
Should the membership plan run through Shopify?
Sometimes, but often not. A plan needs recurring billing, renewal reminders and a way for the front desk to check whether someone is active. Software built for dental memberships handles that natively, and Shopify only does it through add-on apps. I look at what you already use first. The page that explains the plan matters more than which tool collects the payment.
Can the store sell whitening kits?
Take-home whitening that your office fits or dispenses after an exam belongs in the office, not in an open cart. A gift card toward whitening works fine online, because the clinical decision still happens in the chair. Over-the-counter products you stock can sell online too, described plainly and without promises about results.
What about patient privacy?
A purchase from a dental office can reveal that someone is a patient, so checkout collects a name, contact details and payment, and nothing clinical. Order emails stay generic. Store data stays separate from your practice management software, and any enrollment that touches patient records happens in tools covered by a business associate agreement.
What comes after
Pairs well with.
Three visitors land on a dental site: a family checking insurance, a patient in pain, and someone researching cosmetic work.
Usually nextDental automation that works the recall list. The overdue recall list and unscheduled treatment are a quiet leak in every dental practice.
