For electricians ยท Voice agents

A voice agent for electrical calls.

Electrical calls range from a dead outlet to sparks and a burning smell. A voice agent answers, says it is automated, and gets anything dangerous to a person right away.

The electrical contractor version

Why it matters.

An electrical call can be harmless or genuinely dangerous, and the person on the phone often cannot tell which. A voice agent opens by saying it is automated, then asks the questions you wrote: is there a burning smell, any sparking, heat at the panel, are the neighbors dark too. Anything hazardous goes to a human immediately.

Outages are a special case. When the whole neighborhood is dark, the caller needs the utility, not an electrician, and the agent can say so based on your rules. When only their house is out, or a storm tore the service mast off the siding, it captures the details for your crew.

What I would build

For an electrical contractor.

01Hazard rules you write

I define what escalates: burning smells, sparking, hot panels, water near electrical equipment, a downed line. Those go to a person at once, and the agent says only what you have approved for those calls.

02Disclosure from the first sentence

The agent states it is automated in its opening line and offers a person at any point. It never pretends to be human, which matters even more when the caller might be frightened.

03Capturing the job details

Name, number, address and the problem, confirmed back and texted as a copy. For planned work like EV chargers or panel upgrades it also asks the questions your estimator needs, and the full transcript is logged against the contact.

04Booking site visits within your rules

Routine site visits get booked into real availability. The agent reads from your data and does not improvise prices for chargers, generators or panels. Pricing questions become a callback from a person.

The mistake I see

Handing the agent electrical advice to give out

Owners sometimes want the agent to talk callers through resetting a breaker or checking a GFCI. Keep that minimal and approved word for word, if you include it at all. An agent improvising electrical guidance is a liability. Its job is to capture, sort and escalate, not to troubleshoot someone's wiring over the phone.

What you get

Voice agents.

A voice agent that answers when you are with a customer, on a ladder, or closed.

  • Answers out of hours, or when you are already on a call
  • Captures name, number, address and the problem
  • Confirms back what it heard, then texts a copy
  • Escalates emergencies to a human immediately
  • Books routine appointments where that makes sense
  • Full transcript logged against the contact
Disclosure is built in and not optional. The agent states it is automated in its opening line, and a caller can ask for a person at any point.
Price. Quoted after a call. Priced on call volume.

How it goes

For an electrical contractor, step by step.

→ Keep scrolling. It moves sideways.

  1. Write the rules

What counts as an emergency, and who it goes to.

  2. Build and constrain

It reads from your data. It does not improvise prices.

  3. Test it badly on purpose

Angry, panicked, noisy, strong accent, interrupting. That is how real calls arrive.

  4. Go live out of hours first

The lowest-risk window, and where most of the value is anyway.

  5. Step five is you.

The free Receipt shows what your electrical contractor should fix first. About half a minute, no card.

Questions

What electricians ask.

What happens if someone reports sparking or a burning smell?

The call goes to a person immediately, following the escalation you set. The agent only repeats the safety language you approved and does not try to diagnose anything. That rule gets written first and tested hardest before the agent goes live.

Can it tell a utility outage from a problem in the house?

It can ask: are your neighbors out too, did a line come down, did a breaker trip. Based on the answers it follows your rules, which might mean pointing them to the utility or capturing details for your crew. It records everything so a person can double-check.

Is a voice agent worth it for a small electrical shop?

If you are missing calls while on jobs or after hours, probably. If someone in the office answers all day and you get few after-hours calls, maybe not yet, and missed-call text back may be enough. Pricing is based on call volume, so a quiet line costs less.
