For masonry and hardscape contractors ยท SEO & local listings
Local SEO for masonry contractors.
People search for a chimney repair and a paver patio in completely different ways. Your listings and pages have to cover both, with photos that prove the work is real and local.

The masonry contractor version
Why it matters.
Masonry search splits in two. Repair searches are urgent and local: chimney repair, step repair, brick pointing near me. Project searches are slower and visual: retaining walls, patios, outdoor fireplaces. The Google profile handles a lot of the first. Detailed service pages built on real local projects handle the second. A contractor with only a home page and a gallery misses both.
Reviews carry more weight on big jobs. A homeowner about to spend serious money reads past the star rating into what people said about cleanup, timelines and how the work held up after a winter. Steady requests after each job keep those stories coming.
What I would build
For a masonry contractor.
Google Business Profile claimed, categorized and filled properly, with categories and services covering both masonry and hardscape, and project photos added through the year rather than once.
A real page per service and per town you serve: chimney repair, retaining walls, patios, steps. Each with projects from that kind of work, not a template with the town name swapped.
A review request that fires after every job, timed after the final walk-through. Reviews that mention the patio, the wall or the chimney help the homeowner reading them and your relevance for those searches.
Listings corrected and made consistent across the web, schema markup that matches each page, and Search Console connected and checked so you can see which project searches you show up for.
The mistake I see
Hiding hardscape under a generic category
Plenty of masons pick one broad category on their Google profile and never revisit it. A business that builds patios and walls but is categorized only for brick repair, or the reverse, is invisible for a big share of what it does. One dropdown can make the difference, and it costs nothing to fix.

What is wrong, what is missing, what is costing you.
Fix the profile first
One dropdown moves more than most of the rest combined.
Build the pages
Real local content, not the same page with the town swapped.
Keep it current
The maintenance is the work. It is not a one-off.

Questions
What masonry and hardscape contractors ask.
Should I have separate pages for chimney work and hardscape?
Yes. They are different searches from different people with different urgency. A chimney repair page should answer how fast you can come and what you fix. A hardscape page should show projects and explain the build. Combining them weakens both, for search and for the person reading.
Do project photos help with local rankings?
They help people choose you, which is most of what matters once you appear. Fresh photos on the Google profile also show the business is active. I add them as part of keeping the profile current, with clear descriptions of the work, not a dump of unlabeled files.
My best work is in towns far from my shop. Can I rank there?
You can build real pages for those towns using the projects you did there, which is honest and useful. Showing up in the map results far from your base is harder and depends on many factors. I focus first on the area closest to you, then expand where your project history supports it.
