Selling online, for auto repair shops. Carefully.
An auto repair shop should almost never sell parts online. Gift cards, prepaid maintenance and seasonal tire changeovers are different. Those can be sold ahead of time and redeemed in the bay.

The auto repair shop version
Why it matters.
A parent wants to cover the oil changes on a teenager's first car. An adult child wants the brakes on an elderly parent's sedan checked before winter. Both would buy from a shop they trust if it were simple. Right now most of them call, get put on hold, and give up or hand over cash in an envelope. A gift card or a prepaid service on your site catches that without tying up the counter.
Parts are the opposite case. Fitment questions, warranty, returns and big parts chains with next-day delivery make selling parts online a losing business for most independent shops. The work is what customers trust you for, so that is what to sell ahead of time, and only the pieces of it you can price without the car on a lift.
What I would build
For an auto repair shop.
A collection of plans priced on work you can promise without seeing the car: oil changes, seasonal checks, tire changeovers. Each product page spells out what is included and what triggers a separate quote.
A gift card design in your brand, sold through a mobile checkout and delivered by email or printed at the counter. Built so a gift from a relative reads as a real shop, not a generic coupon.
What happens if the car needs more than the plan covers, whether a plan moves to a different vehicle, and how unused visits work. The terms sit on the product page, so nobody learns them at the counter.
Banners, an email to your existing customers and social graphics announcing prepaid tire changeovers before the first hard frost. Customers who prepaid in the fall are already on the schedule before the scramble starts.
The mistake I see
Selling a plan the shop cannot honor
A prepaid plan priced too loosely turns into an argument the first time a car needs more than the plan expected. The customer feels tricked, and the shop eats either the difference or the review. Every prepaid product should cover a defined service at a defined scope, with anything beyond it quoted separately and approved before work starts.

- Mobile checkout flow, tested on an actual phone
- Launch assets: banners, email, social, the lot

Questions
What auto repair shops ask.
Should I sell tires online?
Probably not as a full catalog. Tire distributors and big online sellers already win on selection and price, and you would be competing on their terms. Selling installation packages or seasonal changeovers is a different story, because that is labor only you can deliver. If customers want to bring their own tires, decide your policy and post it.
Do prepaid maintenance plans bring customers back?
They give customers a reason to come back to you instead of the quick-lube place they drive past. That is the point. Whether it pays depends on pricing the plan honestly and reminding people to use it, which is where automated reminders matter. A plan nobody remembers is a gift card in a drawer.
Is Shopify overkill for a few gift cards?
Often, yes. If you only sell gift cards and one or two plans, a checkout on your current website may be all you need, and I would tell you that. Shopify earns its place when you sell several plans, branded merchandise or anything that ships. Start small and move up if it sells.
