The moving company version

Why it matters.

Search for movers near you and the map fills with options, some of them brokers or lead sites dressed up as local companies. Customers click into profiles and read reviews closely, looking for damage stories, surprise charges and how the company responded. A real address, real photos of trucks and a steady run of recent reviews separate you from the noise.

Responses matter as much as ratings. BrightLocal's Local Consumer Review Survey 2026 found consumers are 80% more likely to use a business that responds to every review. In moving, where one damage complaint can scare off a customer, a calm, specific reply shows how you handle problems, and every future customer reads it.

What I would build

For a moving company.

01A profile that proves you are local

Google Business Profile claimed and categorized correctly, with your real address or service area, photos of your own trucks and crew, and services listed for each type of move.

02Listings cleaned up everywhere

Name, address and phone consistent across the web. Movers often carry old listings from previous addresses or numbers, and the mismatch makes you look like the shady operators customers fear.

03A page per move type and town

Local moves, long distance, apartments, downsizing, offices and pianos, plus pages for the towns you serve, each answering real local questions, with schema markup that matches the page.

04A review request after every move

Fired automatically when the move closes, so reviews keep coming through the busy season. Search Console is connected and checked, so I can see which searches bring customers in.

The mistake I see

Ignoring the bad reviews

Every mover gets a complaint eventually: a scratched table, a late crew, a dispute over the final bill. Plenty of owners ignore it or fire back angrily. Both cost moves. A short, specific, professional reply that explains what you did to make it right tells future customers what they really want to know: what happens if something goes wrong.

How it goes

For a moving company, step by step.

→ Keep scrolling. It moves sideways.

  1. Audit

What is wrong, what is missing, what is costing you.

  2. Fix the profile first

One dropdown moves more than most of the rest combined.

  3. Build the pages

Real local content, not the same page with the town swapped.

  4. Keep it current

The maintenance is the work. It is not a one-off.

  5. Step five is you.

The free Receipt shows what your moving company should fix first. About half a minute, no card.

Questions

What movers ask.

How do I compete with brokers and lead sites in search?

Be obviously real. Brokers usually do not have local trucks, crews or an address customers can visit. Fill your profile with your own fleet and crew photos, keep your reviews current, and build pages that answer local moving questions properly. You may not outrank every directory, but you can win the customer who clicks through.

Can I report fake moving listings?

Yes. Google lets you suggest edits and report listings that break its rules, like fake addresses or keyword-stuffed business names. It is slow and not guaranteed, but fake listings do get removed. Document what you find and report it. A cleaner map helps every honest mover competing for the same customers.

Do I need reviews that mention specific crews?

They help. Reviews that name a crew lead or describe a brutal staircase read as real, and they reassure the next customer far more than a short generic line. You cannot write them for customers, but your review request can invite detail, like asking which crew member stood out.
