For auto detailers and car washes ยท Marketing planning

A marketing plan for your detailing business.

Detailing swings with the weather and the seasons. A plan decides which packages you push, how you fill winter, and how one spring detail becomes a customer for years.

The detailing shop version

Why it matters.

Spring arrives and your inbox fills with salt-crusted cars. You work every day and turn people away. Then November comes and the calendar empties. A plan uses that pattern: sell maintenance plans in spring, push coatings in late summer and early fall ahead of winter, and give interior and salt-removal work a real place in the cold months.

It also decides what kind of detailer you are. High-volume maintenance washes, premium correction and coatings, dealership work, pre-sale details. Each needs different pricing, equipment and marketing. A plan picks the lane that fits your skills and margins, then builds everything else around it.

What I would build

For a detailing shop.

01A written position

Who you detail for and why they choose you over the car wash or the cheaper mobile guy. One paragraph that your website, packages and social posts all repeat.

02Packages and offers with edges

Packages defined tightly enough to price: what is included, how long it takes and who it is for. Plus a maintenance plan that brings spring customers back on a schedule.

03Channels picked and others dropped

Maybe Instagram and your Google profile matter most, and TikTok does not fit your customers. The plan names where effort goes each week and what you can stop doing.

04Measures with thresholds

Bookings per week, average ticket, repeat customers and no-show rate. Each gets a threshold that tells you when to adjust prices, packages or marketing, instead of guessing.

The mistake I see

Discounting to fill winter

Winter gets quiet and the instinct is a big discount. It fills a few days with price shoppers who never come back at full price, and it teaches loyal customers to wait for the sale. A plan fills winter with work that makes sense in the cold: salt-stained interiors, protection packages and dealership accounts.

What you get

Marketing planning.

Before anybody designs anything, I figure out what you are selling, to whom, and what has to happen every week.

  • A written position: what you sell, to whom, and why you over the alternative
  • The offer, defined tightly enough to put a price on
  • Which channels get effort and which get ignored
  • A weekly rhythm somebody can actually keep
  • What gets measured, and the threshold that triggers a decision
Price. Strategy comes in The System, from $5,598 with the brand and the website. A strategy-only session is quoted after a call.

How it goes

For a detailing shop, step by step.

→ Keep scrolling. It moves sideways.

  1. One long conversation

Your numbers, your best customers, the jobs you wish you had more of.

  2. Narrow it

Most plans fail from doing six things badly. I pick two.

  3. Write it down

One page. If it needs ten, it will not survive a busy month.

  4. Set the review

A date to look at it honestly and change it.

  5. Step five is you.

The free Receipt shows what your detailing shop should fix first. About half a minute, no card.

Questions

What auto detailers and car washes ask.

Should I sell maintenance memberships?

If you can deliver them reliably, they smooth out the seasons. A member gets regular washes or interior refreshes at a set price, and you get predictable work. Start with your best existing customers and a simple plan. The risk is overselling memberships in spring that you cannot service during the summer rush.

Is dealership or fleet work worth it?

It can fill slow weeks and pay steadily, but margins are usually thinner and timelines tight. It works best as a base, not the whole business. A plan decides how much of your week you commit to it, so retail customers who pay full price for your best work still get a slot.

How do I get more pre-sale detail customers?

Pre-sale details are a clear offer for people selling privately or trading in. Build a specific package for it, with the outcome stated plainly: a car that photographs well and looks cared for. Partner with people who list cars, and show before-and-afters of cars on their way to sale.
