For flooring contractors ยท E-commerce

Flooring is a product. Sell the sample first.

Customers want to browse floors before they let anyone in to measure. A store built around collections and sample orders lets them shop at night and still hands the sale to your showroom.

What you are paying for

E-commerce.

A store built end to end, from the name on it to the checkout.

  • The storefront, designed and built on Shopify
  • Product pages that answer the question before it is asked
  • Collection architecture, so browsing goes somewhere
  • Visual merchandising, and the photography direction to feed it
  • Mobile checkout flow, tested on an actual phone
  • Launch assets: banners, email, social, the lot

What I would build

For a flooring company.

01Collections by room, material and problem

Collection architecture that matches how people actually search: by room, by material, and by the problem they need solved, like pets, basements or kids. Browsing goes somewhere instead of dumping every product onto one long grid.

02Product pages that answer the install question

Each product page covers durability, where it can and cannot go, how it handles moisture, what the install involves and how it looks in a real room. The question a customer would ask in the showroom gets answered before they drive over.

03Sample orders that turn into leads

A sample order is a natural first purchase in flooring, free or for a small fee, shipped or picked up at the showroom. It also hands you a name, an address and the floor they are considering, which is a better lead than a bare contact form.

04Photography direction and launch assets

Real photos of installed floors in real houses carry more weight than supplier renders. I give you a shot list for finished jobs, then build the banners, launch email and social graphics that announce the catalog to past customers.

The flooring company version

Why it matters.

A homeowner looking for new floors starts on a phone, often after dinner, comparing looks. They want the vinyl plank that survives a dog, the hardwood that matches the stairs, the tile for the mudroom. If your site only says you sell flooring, they browse the big box sites instead and show up at your counter with a screenshot. A real catalog keeps that browsing on your site, under your name.

The honest limit: buying a whole room of flooring from a cart rarely makes sense. Boxes are heavy, quantities depend on a measure, and the install matters as much as the material. So the store sells the parts that fit a cart, like samples, care products, and remnants or area rugs if you stock them, and sends the big purchase to a quote.

The mistake I see

Uploading the supplier's whole catalog and calling it a store

Some flooring companies dump every product their distributor offers onto the site, with supplier photos and supplier descriptions. Page after page of near-identical listings, none written for the customer, some for floors you would never recommend. Curate what you actually stand behind, organize it so it can be browsed, and let the product pages sound like your best showroom person.

How it goes

For a flooring company, step by step.

→ Keep scrolling. It moves sideways.

  1. Know the shelf

What you sell, who buys it, and what they compare it against.

  2. Structure first

    Collections, categories, the path through.

  3. Look, then build

The look applied to templates rather than to one page, then products loaded and the buying flow tested end to end.

  4. Launch and watch

Watch what people actually do, and fix that.

  5. Step five is you.

Questions

What flooring contractors ask.

Should I put flooring prices online?

Material price per square foot can go online and saves you a pile of tire-kicking calls. The installed price is different, because it depends on the subfloor, removing the old floor, stairs and transitions. Showing material pricing with a clear note that installation is quoted after a measure keeps you honest and keeps the customer from feeling ambushed.

Can I sell flooring through Shopify if I mostly install?

You can, but decide what the store is for first. If you mainly install, it is a showroom that never closes: collections, product pages and sample orders that end in a measure appointment. Full checkout on boxes of flooring makes more sense if you already sell material to do-it-yourself customers at the counter. I have built Shopify stores from nothing, start to finish, so I will tell you plainly which version fits.

Are supplier photos good enough for the product pages?

They are a starting point, and every competitor carrying the same brand has the exact same ones. Your own photos of installed floors in local homes are what make the store yours. I will give you a short list of what to photograph after each job. It is fine to launch with supplier images and swap them out over time.

What comes after
