For flooring contractors ยท Marketing planning
A flooring plan that picks a lane.
Flooring companies try to sell everything to everyone: carpet, tile, hardwood, vinyl, refinishing, commercial. A plan picks what you lead with and builds the calendar around it.

What you are paying for
Marketing planning.
Before anybody designs anything, I figure out what you are selling, to whom, and what has to happen every week.
- A written position: what you sell, to whom, and why you over the alternative
- The offer, defined tightly enough to put a price on
- Which channels get effort and which get ignored
- A weekly rhythm somebody can actually keep
- What gets measured, and the threshold that triggers a decision

What I would build
For a flooring company.
What you install, for whom, and why you over the big-box store or the cheapest installer. Written down, so the showroom, the website and the quotes all tell the same story.
A clear first step, like an in-home measure, a refinishing assessment or a whole-house package. Defined tightly enough that a customer understands exactly what they get and what it leads to.
Often your Google profile, a few strong material pages and referral partners like realtors and designers. I name what gets effort and what gets dropped, so nothing runs on guilt.
Weekly actions that fit the busy months, a heavier push before the holiday deadline, and the measures that show whether any of it is working or needs to change.
The flooring company version
Why it matters.
Look at your last year of jobs. Somewhere in there are the jobs you love, with good margins, smooth installs and happy customers, and the jobs that ate your installers' time for little return. Most flooring marketing ignores the difference and promotes the whole catalog. A plan starts with your real numbers and decides which work to chase: whole-house hardwood, refinishing in older homes, waterproof plank for basements and rentals, or builder accounts.
It also maps the calendar. Spring and summer move-ins, the fall rush to finish before the holidays, the winter lull. Once those are on paper, you can decide when to push measures, when to work on realtors and designers, and when to let the busy season run without spending more.
The mistake I see
Promoting the whole catalog and standing for nothing
Flooring companies often advertise every material at once because they sell them all. The customer sees a generic flooring store and has no reason to pick you over the one closer to home. Leading with one strength, like refinishing old oak or waterproof floors in basements, makes you memorable. You can still sell everything else once they are in the door.

Questions
What flooring contractors ask.
Should I work with realtors and builders?
Often, yes. Realtors need fast, reliable flooring before listings and after closings, and builders need dependable crews. Those relationships can smooth out slow months. They also need different marketing: reliability, turnaround and communication rather than product advice. The plan decides how much effort that channel gets compared with homeowners.
When should I push for holiday deadline jobs?
Earlier than feels natural. Customers who want new floors before hosting start thinking about it in late summer and early fall, and the schedule fills fast. The plan sets a date to start that message and a date to stop promising holiday completion, so you do not overbook and disappoint people.
Is commercial flooring worth marketing?
It depends on your crews and your appetite for bids, schedules and after-hours work. Commercial can fill gaps but brings different demands. If you want it, the plan treats it as its own lane with its own message. If it is occasional, I would not dilute your residential marketing for it.
