For gyms and fitness studios ยท Paid ads
Gym ads that send people to a trial, not a homepage.
Ads amplify whatever happens after the click. If the trial page is weak or the follow-up is missing, a January ad budget just pays for more people to leave.

What you are paying for
Paid ads.
Ads amplify whatever is already there. If the page does not convert, ads make you lose money faster.
- Search and call-only campaigns for people already looking
- Retargeting for the ones who bounced
- Landing pages built for the ad, not the home page
- Call tracking so you know what a booked job cost
- A pause rule for when you are booked out

What I would build
For a gym.
Search and call-only campaigns for gym, class-type and near-me searches in a tight radius. People rarely drive far for a gym, so the radius stays small and the budget stays capped.
Landing pages built for the ad, not the home page. One offer, one schedule preview, one booking form. Built to match the ad's promise exactly, so nobody feels baited.
Retargeting for people who looked at the trial page and did not book. A reminder with the schedule and a friendly face, not a countdown timer pretending the offer expires tonight.
A pause rule for when classes are full or the January rush has the desk overwhelmed. Call tracking and form tracking so you know what a new member actually cost, not just what a click cost.
The gym version
Why it matters.
Gym ads have a clear calendar. Late December into January, and again in September, people search with intent. That is when a search campaign for gyms and classes near them can pay. The ad sends someone to a page built for the offer, with the trial terms, the schedule and a booking button near the top. The homepage is the wrong destination.
Before spending anything, I check that destination. If the trial page is slow, the price is hidden, or nobody follows up after signup, I fix that first or I do not start. Then I measure to trials booked and members joined. Clicks do not pay your rent.
The mistake I see
Running ads in summer to fight the slump
Summer attendance drops for reasons ads cannot fix: people are outside, at the beach and on vacation. Spending heavily in July can buy trials from people who vanish by August. Hold budget for September, put summer effort into keeping current members with freezes and outdoor classes, and advertise when people are actually deciding.
How it goes

Check the destination
If the page is not ready, I fix that first or I do not start.
Start small and local
Tight radius, tight keywords, real budget cap.
Measure to booked work
Not clicks, not impressions. Jobs.
Scale or stop
Both are acceptable outcomes and I will tell you which.
Step five is you.

Questions
What gyms and fitness studios ask.
How much should a gym spend on ads?
Start small enough that losing it would not hurt, and run it long enough to see how many trials and members it produces. Your ad spend goes to the platform, on top of my management fee. Once you know what a new member costs, you can decide whether to scale or stop. Both are fine outcomes.
Should we run Facebook and Instagram ads or Google?
Google search catches people already looking for a gym or a class, which makes it the better starting point. Social ads can work for a specific event or challenge launch, aimed at people near you. Start with search, prove it produces members, then test social with a clear offer and a separate budget.
Can ads fix our membership numbers?
Only if the problem is that not enough people know about you. If people visit and do not join, or join and leave after a couple of months, ads make that more expensive, not better. Fix the trial follow-up and onboarding first. Then ads have something worth amplifying.
