For physical therapists ยท Paid ads
PT ads that bring evaluations, not clicks.
Referrals cost you nothing. Ads only make sense for a PT clinic when direct access patients are searching nearby and the page they land on makes booking easy.

What you are paying for
Paid ads.
Ads amplify whatever is already there. If the page does not convert, ads make you lose money faster.
- Search and call-only campaigns for people already looking
- Retargeting for the ones who bounced
- Landing pages built for the ad, not the home page
- Call tracking so you know what a booked job cost
- A pause rule for when you are booked out

What I would build
For a physical therapy clinic.
Search and call-only campaigns for physical therapy searches in a tight radius around each clinic. Separate campaigns per location, so budget follows where patients actually are.
Landing pages built for the ad, not the home page. How to start without a referral, plans accepted, hours, booking. Accurate about what insurance may require, so the ad does not set up a surprise.
Retargeting for people who visited and did not book, kept generic and within the limits ad platforms set for health-related advertising. No ad suggests you know anything about the viewer's condition.
Call tracking so you know what a booked evaluation cost. A pause rule for when therapists are booked out, so the ads stop before new patients face a long wait for a first visit.
The physical therapy clinic version
Why it matters.
The honest case for PT ads is narrow but real. Someone with a sore knee, who does not want to wait for a doctor appointment, searches for physical therapy nearby. A search ad that shows open evaluation slots and leads to a page explaining direct access, insurance and booking can win that patient. Ads aimed at broad audiences with generic wellness messaging rarely produce booked evaluations.
Before spending, I check the destination. If the site does not explain how to start without a referral or does not list insurance plans, ads just pay for confusion. Health ad rules also limit targeting, and tracking pixels stay off pages where patients enter health information. I measure to booked evaluations.
The mistake I see
Advertising instead of fixing referral follow-up
Clinics sometimes reach for ads because new evaluations are down, when the real gap is referred patients who never called back. Paying to find strangers while warm referrals sit unbooked is backwards. Fix the referral follow-up and the booking path first. If there is still capacity after that, ads can fill it.

Questions
What physical therapists ask.
Can we target people who just had surgery?
No. Ad platforms restrict targeting based on health conditions and medical procedures, and trying to work around that is a privacy and policy problem. You can target by location and general interest in physical therapy. The ad speaks to people looking for PT, and the landing page does the explaining.
Do ads work better than physician referrals?
They are different channels. Referrals bring patients who already trust the recommendation, at no ad cost. Ads can reach direct access patients who never saw a doctor. A clinic with strong referrals and spare capacity might use ads to fill gaps. A clinic without solid referral relationships should probably build those first.
What does it cost to run PT ads?
A management fee plus your ad spend, which goes to the platform, not to me. The right spend depends on your area and how many evaluations you can take. I start small and local, measure to booked evaluations, and recommend scaling or stopping based on what a new patient actually cost.
What comes after
Pairs well with.
The patient holding a referral wants three answers: are you in network, are you open when I am free, and how soon can I start.
Usually nextPT automation that protects the plan of care.Patients drop off the plan of care one skipped visit at a time.
